Just One Percent is dedicated to encouraging meditation around the world and making resources available for those who wish to meditate.
Our goal is for one percent of the Earth's population to be meditating within ten years. Just One Percent was founded by Jinjer Stanton For more information see www.jinjerstanton.com.
World peace is a dream that haunts many of us yet seems ever out of reach. Lately, I've heard people speak of forming a peace army or of fighting for peace. That language sets those of us who hunger for peace up in opposition to those who wage war. And being in opposition only feeds the impulses that lead to violence and conflict.
World peace is possible, but not through fighting or even convincing people to put down their weapons. Peace can only happen when individuals turn inward and find the well of personal peace that dwells there. Because we are all connected, each of us who drinks regularly at that well through meditation causes ripples to spread out through the world and cause change. Our personal peace means that others don't feel so great a need to be on the defensive. Studies show that if no more than one percent of the population in a given area meditates daily, the violence in that area plummets. Imagine if one percent of the World's population meditated. World peace.
And one percent seems like a doable number to me.
Many of us wish to meditate already. Sometimes we simply lack the resources, knowledge and support in order to do so consistently and successfully. Many more of us are unfamiliar with meditation or unaware of its myriad benefits (to individual life quality as well as its power to transform the world).
The goal of Just One Percent is to encourage the spread of meditation throughout the world to the point where at least one percent of the world's population meditates regularly. This will lead naturally to the greater goal of the club: World Peace. What we can do is provide information, resources and support for those who need it. Much information is available for free on this web site.
We can teach meditation to battered women, people in violence-torn neighborhoods and disconnected teens. We can be the peace we want to see in the world.
Jinjer has been teaching yoga for over ten years after practicing and studying with a variety of teachers (learning important lessons from each) for over 20. In addition to her main diet of Hatha yoga she practices Nada yoga (the yoga of sound) and has begun to integrate it into her hatha yoga classes. As an outgrowth of her yoga practice Jinjer founded Just One Percent (just before 9/11), which is devoted to the promotion of meditation in our daily lives as a way to bring about world peace. Studies show that if just one percent of a population meditates, violence in that population steadily decreases. She periodically teaches classes on meditating and leading meditation.
